Here are some of my recent favorites on books that encourage and inspire healthy friendships. Find one that fits what you are looking for in your current season.

  1. Never Unfriended by Lisa-Jo Baker

Baker begins her book by tackling fears that keep us from healthy friendships and then dives into what we can do to create life-long besties. Let’s not let FOMO and comparison to keep us from experiencing the joy of friendships. If you want to build meaningful friendships and you like bold truth-bombs, this is the book for you.

Quality Quote: “Friendship will, indeed, inconvenience you, more so if you’re doing it right. If you’ve never been annoyed, put out, or interrupted by a friendship, then you’re likely holding out and missing out.

  1. The Company We Keep by Jonathan Holmes

This short book is a primer to looking at biblical friendships. Holmes walks through the theology of friendship; including the four marks of biblical friendship: constancy, candor, carefulness and counsel. It is a helpful overview but does not go into detail.

Quality Quote: “When we embody biblical friendship, we bear Jesus’ image, his character, his priorities, and his glory. No longer will our friendships be situated merely around common circumstances or interests, but will instead become an embodied commitment to live out the image of God together in every area of our life.”

  1. Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst

Affected by a friendship break-up? I’ve totally been there, and those experiences can damage your identity. TerKeurst tackles those tough friendship rejections and replaces those hurts with the truths of God. She helps you pick up the pieces and move forward in your friendships by living loved.

Quality Quote: “Heartbreaking seasons can certainly grow me but were never meant to define me.”

  1. Nobody’s Cuter Than You by Melanie Shankel

If you’re more of a story girl, then this memoir is going to make you laugh, cry and gather all your girlfriends and give them a big hug. Shankel’s life-long friendship is a testimony to the goodness of God and the people He places in our lives through the good, the bad and the ugly. If you are interested in learning more, you can catch my interview with the author here.

Quality Quote: “There are probably only a handful of times in our lives when someone who will change us forever walks in—when we find someone we can love with our whole hearts, who will challenge us and shape us and make us feel like the world is safer and brighter just because they are in it. A person who loves us for exactly who we are, yet teach us to be better because of who they are and how they live their life.”
