Am I the only one that looks in the mirror and cringes at the look of enormous pores? If I could go back and tell my 16-year-old self anything, it would be to wash my face daily. I was guilty of piling on my makeup and leaving it on when going to bed. If I am honest here, I still do this sometimes after a long day of work. But, the only way my face is going to get better is if I do my part. So I’m pledging to get the right products and use them regularly to shrink my pores and keep my skin clean and refreshed. Who is with me? Ok, let’s start with the ‘need-to-know’s.’

Large pores are a result of genetics and loose collagen in the skin, but with the proper regimen, you can shrink your pores. Whooooo, GREAT news right? Now, let’s talk about how to make this happen.

With having large pores, light makeup is key. Oops. I’m the girl that wants to cover my zits, smooth out my skin, and play around with some Kim K contour. So, I guess it’s out with the old and in with the new. Time to go makeup shopping. Follow me to Sephora, which is my all time favorite place to buy makeup because you get points for what you purchase, which leads to free product…what whattttt. When looking for a lightweight formula with a medium coverage, I would buy the “Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Foundation.” If you like more of a weightless, matte finish, my first choice would be the “Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation.”

Next step, the right products to remove makeup. It is sooooo important to make sure that you remove 100% of the makeup from your face. You want to get all the excess debris out of your pores, so it doesn’t cause your pores to stretch and expand in size.

When shopping for the perfect cleanser, think about your skin type. Oily, dry, normal, acne-prone, sensitive, etc. Knowing this will help narrow down your search. Many skin specialists recommend double cleansing your skin when you are trying to keep a balanced skin tone as well as shrinking pores. Double cleansing your skin means, cleaning your face twice with two different cleansers, one being an oil-based to dissolve extra oils aka sebum and remove impurities, followed by a regular cleanser. Search for washes or scrubs that contain Vitamin C to brighten your skin and salicylic acid to refine pores and treat blemishes.

Grab these goodies while you’re in Sephora: “Soap & Glory Scrub Your Nose In It” and “Dr. Jart+ Pore Minimalist Mask.” If you have tried these products and want something a little more impressive, I am a huge believer in “Rodan and Fields” skin care. I am all about the “Redefine” skincare line. It is amazing for the appearance of lines, pores and loss of firmness. My two favorites are: “Daily Cleansing Mask,” which has exfoliating beads to help deep clean your skin and (the next step) the “Pore Minimizing Toner.” I always think my face is so clean until I wipe it down with the toner, and to my surprises more dirt. This product is my saving grace for better-looking skin.
