I don’t know about you, but holidays always creep up on me so fast. I begin to panic when I remember that I haven’t yet searched for a gift. I made this scrub for my mother for Mother’s Day last month. I know that Mother’s Day has passed, but I was so impressed with how easy it was to make and how meaningful this simple gift was.

Try it, you won’t be disappointed. This makes a perfect birthday gift, or even just as simple “I’m thinking about you” gift. I can’t wait to hear from you guys to see how you liked it and how someone you love responded to the gift.

The more I age, the more I value those simple, homemade gifts from the heart. The thoughtful and irreplaceable gifts that make you realize that they spent valuable time crafting something for YOU. How personal, right? Not only do I love personal but, if your “ballin on a budget”  like me, then inexpensive gift ideas, just catch my attention even more.

I have put some thought into this and really pondered on what women love most. I am a hairstylist that loves to pamper my guests, and one of my special treats for them is a hand massage. I don’t know if it’s the massage they love more or if it’s the hand lotion. They are constantly commenting on how soft their hands are for the remainder of the appointment. I think it’s unanimous that they love soft skin, right?!

So….let’s spoil our loved ones and give them something that will last. Down below I will walk you through the step to an easy recipe I found on the oh-so-lifesaving Pinterest, for making a “Lemon Sugar Scrub.” This will leave their hands (and yours) feeling like butter! That’s love right there!

P.S. Feel free to play around with the different carrier oils, types of sugar, and the essential oils you chose. I chose lemon because it’s such a clean and refreshing scent! Enjoy.
“Lemon Sugar Scrub”

Here is what you need:
1 cup white sugar (or brown sugar)
1/4 + cups of coconut oil
Lemon essential oil (or scent of your choice)
8 oz. mason jar

Step 1: Measure out 1 cup of white sugar or brown sugar (depending on the consistency you want) and place it in a mixing bowl.

Step 2: Measure coconut oil. Personally, I start out with 1/4 cup because you can always add more if need be. If you or your mother had any allergies to coconut you can substitute the oil with grape seed oil or almond oil.

Step 3: Mix your coconut oil with your sugar until your mixture becomes light and fluffy looking, adding more or less coconut oil until you have the right consistency.

Step 4: Add your essential oil to the mixture. You can literally use any scent that you live in place of the lemon. If you aren’t too sure of what scents your mother likes, I would stick with the original recipe and play it safe with lemon. Like I said, lemon had a clean scent that most people’s allergies aren’t bothered by. I usually out in about 15 drops of the essential oil to your mixture but you can chose to out in more or less. This step is all personal preference.

Step 5: Place your sugar scrub in a clean, dry 8 oz. mason jar (or any cute jar with a lid). I would recommend finding the nearest Hobby Lobby (keep in mind they are closed on Sunday’s) for the best deal. They have individual glass jars of all sizes and shapes. Plus, on their online website, they have a coupon code for 40% off any one time. My favorite jar is from Hobby Lobby and it has a little spoon attached to the side of it so that it makes it easy to scoop the scrub out of the jar.

YAY! Your scrub is complete! Now, to top it off, write a simple, sweet message to your loved one on a piece of paper and attach it to the jar by tying it with ribbon and then wrapping it around the lid of the jar. I personally always write instructions on the back of the paper so they know how to properly use the scrub.

Example: To use your scrub, scoop out about a spoonful of the mixture and rub it onto your hands (or feet) as though you were washing them with soap, allowing the oil to moisturize your skin while the sugar is exfoliating the skin. Once you have worked in the scrub, rinse your hands with cool water, and enjoy your silky, smooth skin!

This is an easy and inexpensive way to show your someone special how much you appreciate them and want to spoil them with a thoughtful gesture!
