Dear All the Women Who Are Dissatisfied with the Body God Gave You,
You are not your body. Your body is a part of you, but it is not you. It is a gift to take you all the places God has planned for you. It is a tool to help you accomplish many meaningful tasks. It is a means to exchange love with family as you hug and hold them tight. It carries your soul, and it reflects beauty. But it is not you.
You are something more beautiful than full lips and small waists and long lashes. You are something more powerful than sex appeal. You are stronger and deeper than a magazine cover. Every one of you.
You were crafted by God himself. You were made to be a small light that leads the way to the Light of the World. You have been given worth that our world will never truly understand because it did not come from our world. It came from the One who loves you more than you will ever fully comprehend, and exactly as you are. Your beauty comes from the way you love as He loves. The way you fight for the hurting and wounded all around you. How you give honor to the people, you meet. How you refuse to lower yourself to prove you are desirable. When you reach out and fully embrace this truth, it makes you lovely. It makes you stunning, the way a small spark lights up the night and draws focus to itself.
And when heads turn and focus in on you, at that moment you can choose to point people to where your beauty comes from. You can point to why you are more than your body. You know that you matter to God. You are sure that His love will not ebb and flow based on the dimensions of your chest and hips, or the way your skin wrinkles. Your worth is eternal, just like you. C.S. Lewis said, “You are not a body. You have a body. You are a soul.”
Sweet friends, do not resent your body for not living up to a certain look. Resent this world for lying to you and telling you “the look” is where beauty is found. Every woman has beauty for she was crafted by her creator and is most stunning when she is most like him- a light in a dark place.
