Why do we worry so much?

I ask myself this question every time I finish an episode of worrying in my life. I could do with less worrying – but easier said than done right? Oh the weight that we would ease ourselves from if we could get a handle on all that worrying we do.

Matthew 6:28

And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field grow and how they grow. They do not labour or spin.

Here, I believe Jesus uses an example of how we should walk our daily lives, without worry. We should be like lilies of the field. But wait, I’m sorry does anyone know how difficult it all seems when you are given a reason to worry?

Notice how they are lilies of the field and not Lilies of the garden or greenhouse. It’s lilies that are solely independent of man’s care. Personally I don’t think God used field because of an enchanting beautiful concept; although that is evident there. I think it was with intention of the location and habitat. Fields are an open, vulnerable exposed to all kind of environment, it’s not a environment that is conditioned and tethered or man made, but is raw and scarred by all… whether that is people, animals or the weather.

Like the Lilies of the field maybe God is asking us to be independent of man’s care and solely dependant on His care, and through that we worry no more.

Said the robin to the sparrow

I should really like to know,

Why these anxious human beings

Rush about and worry so.

Said the sparrow to the robin,

Friend, I think that it must be ,

That they have no heavenly Father

Such as cares for you and me.

We have a Heavenly Father and I think sometimes we underestimate His love for us. Sometimes I argue with myself, that I know of His great love.  But then I worry, and I realize how contradicting that is. At times I not only invite worry, but I can host worry, instead of casting that burden onto Him. After all, that’s what He says we should do yet we cling to it as if it’s our source of energy.

I’m with you on this wrestle, ladies.

But I have to remind myself of the absolute truth that  God is Kind, His ways are Higher. My situations are temporary, He has a plan for me, and He has foreseen this part of my life. Then I must believe the promises He has for me, and not just believe but be expectant and live out a life that shows this.

And let us fight for the peace to be able to be still in the storm.
